Up, Up, and Away

by J. Bradley

Some cars honk as they drive past me as I try to turn back time to correct our mistakes. When the red light stops traffic, kids in those cars point at me and wave. One day, a parent will roll down a window and let their kids ask: What’s he doing there? Why can't he fly? Why’s his skin so dark? I've rehearsed how to answer just in case. Luthor’s up to something across the street. He’s filled the intersection with kryptonite. Wouldn’t your skin be this dark if it absorbed sunlight for the last 70 years?

Author's Note

My wife and I were taking her grandmothers to see Wonder Woman and we saw a guy dressed up as Superman dancing on a street corner in a rural part of Florida. There's just some weirdness you stumble onto (Florida or otherwise) that inspires you to write something about it.
